Cape Canaveral and on to Titus ville

Monday March 9, 2009
Clearing Immigration
We were up and off to the office of Homeland Security to show them our documents. We had our decal number and passports and boat license and registration and we were off. George and Georgia had rented a car to go and meet their grandchildren in Orlando and they were kind enough to take us with them and so we took them to McDonald's for breakfast. When we got back we washed down the salt water off the boat and headed out on the ICW again for Titus ville. There was a couple of bridges to catch and the last one we made it in time. When we got to Titus ville we headed up to the Save-a-Lot grocery store to get some groceries. Papa John's Pizzeria caught our eye and we settled in a park to eat it. It is now around 6:30 pm and we are in T shirts and there is still lots of daylight.

The anchorage this morning is like glass. This is one of my favourite things about the trip. Waking up and seeing a bunch of sailboats anchored in this placid water. The temperature is working its way up into the 80's again. We have decided to layover in Titus ville one more day to see the shuttle Discovery go up. Apparently the locals say it is something you would not want to miss. We headed into West Marine to order a muffler for our exhaust system and a new impeller for just in case. We dropped into a
shop that made by the marina that made cushions and canvas work for yachts. The name of the company is A-team Marine Upholstery and Canvas and I was interested to see their work and find out if they had a waiting list to order. There space was huge and there is a woman that makes the cushions and they have a guy that does the measuring and canvas work. They just moved to this location during Christmas week 2008. After we had a late lunch we took the laundry up to the marina. Being short one quarter I went down to the office to get some change and the door was locked. So back to the boat to hang one load on the lifelines. :) annoying!!!!!!! Dick called his cousin Tom in New Smyrna Beach as they had asked us to when we came back and we hope to connect with them tomorrow when we get there.

Things I love about the US
Captain is not even our of bed yet and West Marine has called and all the parts that were shipped as of yesterday are in and ready for pick up. 9:30 am. We got the repairs done today and were disappointed to hear the Shuttle Discovery had been canceled due to a fuel leak. They are planning to launch tomorrow night. This is probably the only time we will ever have a front row seat. The launch pad is about four miles away in a direct line east of Titus ville.

Good to hear you are safe and sound in the good old U S of A. Getting a picture of the launch would be special. Thanks for the update and all the best! Peter

You almost witnessed one of my dreams --to see a shuttle launch live.!!! So glad you are back in the states and heading home. Smyrna Beach has happy memories.
