Tuesday February 23, 2016

Today we went to the shopping centre in Kissimmee that we went to a few years ago with Janet and Bill when they were down here on an RCI in Kissimmee

Spent the afternoon at the pool reading and catching up on the sunshine. Weather is in the 80's again.
They keep the pool at about 100 degrees F. so it feels more like an outdoor bath.

Monday February 22, 2016

This morning we had to get up and get to The Vacation Centre in Kissimmiee to meet our sales pitch and breakfast from the Vacation Village Resorts rep. These are not time shares. They are for customers of former time shares who have limits on location. It is a whole world of resort vacations with no maintenance fees and no limits on access. We got to the centre about 9:30 am and got picked up and taken for breakfast, looked at resort condos and then went to the Vacation Village Resort office for the take down. At 1:30 pm we were finally released and given a ride back to our car.
Crazy way to make a living.

Monday afternoon we headed back to our lowly retreat to go for a swim in the pool and enjoy what was left of the sunny afternoon.

Sunday February 21, 2016

Dick and I decided we would like to go to a Big church with a Praise and Worship Team. We found one near by with three services but they said parking was not good at the 11:00 am service so we went early to attend the 9:00 am service. Not only did they have a large group of musicians but the sanctuary was under blue lights. When we left there was a cop directing traffic for the next service.
We enjoyed the lesson on family.

The weather is perfect for the pool and Dick found a delicious vegetarian pizza at Pizza Hut.

Saturday February 20, 2016

We packed  up today and Dick and Alastair went back to see the boat one more time.
Bev took me to the Tangier Mall and stopped to pick up some fresh strawberries. Wow the fragrance.

We drove down to Poinciana on hwy 17 and got to see another side of Florida. The Peace Valley orange and grapefruit plant was bustling with the harvest.

We checked in at the Time share at Alhambra at Poinciana at 4:00 pm. Poinciana is a type of tree and Alhambra is a type of architecture. We got bombarded with the Vacation hard sell and have signed up for Monday morning to get it over with. The room is a suite and they have a microwave and dishes and a refrigerator. There is a pool and shopping near by.

Walking over the Bridge to Fort Myers's Beach

Friday February 19,2016 - Matanza's and Jazz

Friday February 19, 2016

This was our best sail of the whole week!!!

See that flag flying and the smile on Alastair's face.

Dick and I walked over the bridge to Fort Myers Beach and meet Bev and Alastair for dinner.

Thursday February 18, 2016 - Naples and a Picinc

We decided to head out for a day trip to Naples Bev made a delicious lunch. I tried to take a picture of it and did not know I had the camera on video. That is me complaining about the battery again.

Alastair and Bev drove us down to Naples. This is the farthest south we have ever been in Florida.

We went to the beach and walked along and then walked up the Historical Shopping Area. Parking is at a premium but we managed to get a spot near the Beach.

We stopped for a tea at a hotel and Bev ordered donuts and they took forever to come to the table but when they did they were delicious. Homemade and heated. The hotel did not open until 4:00 pm for happy hour and that is why they took so long. They had to wait for the grease to heat up. They were the most delicious donuts I have ever eaten.

Wednesday February 17, 2016 - Day in Estero

Sailing with Port Stanley Sailors

Catch up with Ken and Glenny

Ken Holland a fellow PSSS sailor winters in Estero and we introduced him and his wife Glenny to Alastair and Bev through email. Alastair and he have been sailing together for the winter.

They invited us to dinner and Ken joined us for a morning sail. On the way back to their home he gave us a tour of the Bella Jack development. They have a beautiful home and treated us to a delicious meal. It was wonderful thrill for Dick and I to have everyone together.

Pine Island and a girls day out!

We watched a documentary the night before about Pine Island and the art community called Matlacha.

Bev decided to take me there for a girls day out. The men went sailing and we drove to the community of Matlacha. Stopped at a restaurant to have a drink and go to the washroom. There were may folks there from Bayview Yacht club having a delicious meal and celebration. It is on a canal.

Pine Island had decided to resist development and stay the way it is. They have many nurseries on it that grow Palm now. Originally they grew Pines. Bev drove me out to St. James on the south shore of the island.

Sunday February 14, 2016

We got up and drove to Fort Myers and made it to Beverly and Alastair's around 3:30 pm.
We found them by the pool and Dexter was guarding the condo. Bev made us a cup of tea and some  homemade peanut butter cookies. Alastair made a delicious stew which had been cooking all day ready for our arrival. The weather was 77 degrees F. It feels wonderful.

Monday February 15, 2016

Bev made us a delicious breakfast and I went to her Aerobics class in the gym. Alastair picked me up after the pool and we headed out for a sail on the gulf with a friend of his from the condos who name is Paul and they are from Ottawa.

The winds were gusty but we did get some wind and then it calmed down around lunch time so we could eat our sandwiches that Bev packed. Alastair made a delicious supper of Salmon. Yummy!

2016 Florida Vacation

Friday February 12 - 13, 2016

Dick and I headed out on our winter vacation in a local snow squall that had caused us to have to have a snow day the day before. We were sure the radar was accurate and decided to maintain our responsibilities until 3:30 pm We booked a room in Valdosta Georgia and drove through the night. The weather cleared after Kent county and we made it through the night and did not have to pull over. About 4:00 am we noticed the rear passengers tire had gone flat. We put the donut on and headed down the highway about 200 miles until we found a Walmart that was opened at 7:00 am.
The technician could not put the tire on because he was alone so we bought a new one had it put on the rim and Dick changed it and put it on the car. We got to Valdosta around 12:00 pm and the lady let us move in thankfully. We went to sleep for about three hours and then went and washed the car and got some supper. Fort Myers is only six hours away.
