A funny thing happened this morning when we were leaving for Erie, Penn. When we got to the mouth of the harbour the wind completely died. We decided instead of taking 30 miles to motor to the east we would take 8 miles to the west and that would land us in Genevea Park. There is a state park and a village much like summer in Grand Bend. There is a path carved though the brush that runs down by the water. We went downtown to have lunch and ended up at a place from the 50 ies. called Eddies Restaurant. The food was good and the service as well. It was beastly hot all day and we ran to shade all along the way. I found a new bathing suit at one of the shops. The label said it was a Longitude and I love the fit. It is designed for longer body portions so it does bind on the leg or shoulders. Fantastic idea. On board tonight with three fans to break the heat.

Summer Vacation in Lake Erie - FINALLY
Summer Vacation 2012
FINALLY a two week vacation on Lake Erie. WE have waited for this option for many years of sailing. The trip started on Sunday July 29, 2012. We left Port Stanley early Sunday morning at 6:30 am and headed to Ashtabula Ohio. The winds were light and we motored the whole trip. Later in the day we put the sails up and with a following sea were consistently doing around 7 knots which put us in the harbour at 1:09 pm. We cleared customs and made it through the bridge. We headed yp the river to the AYC and looked for a dock. There was no one we know from the Lake Erie race so the told us to go to the visitor's dock by the main clubhouse. When we arrived at the dock we discovered the boat ahead of us was Alaistair and Bev Robertson from Port Dover. I had completed a dodger for Alaistair in the winter, fitted it in the pouring rain in May and discovered a few places it needed a tweeking. We had dinner together and discovered that Bev and Alaistair were here because they had lost a shaft key. They had been suppose to come to Port Stanley a week ago but had been prevented due to the weather. It was wonderful to connect again and spend time together.
First day of vacation - Monday July 30, 2012.
We actually slept in until 8:30 am. The evening had cooled down to great sleeping weather and with the gentle motion of the boat I had been rocked into a deep deep sleep. So love being onboard and enjoying the carefree, no stress day of a layover. Alastair called a mechanic at the Marine store just 200 feet away. This is a great place to break down. We meet a couple that sail out of Ashtabula and live in Cinncinati Ohio. While Bev and Alaistair looked after the repairs, we took a walk uptown to get groceries. When we got back they had departed for Fairport. We called them on the VHF and said good-bye. Dick kept himself busy all day visiting and I had a long afternoon nap and got into a book I brought. Around 5:00 pm the marina guy came down and asked me to help tie up a boat that was coming in a couple of hours. We meet a couple from Lake Michigan that are heading south to do the dream. They shared their blog with us and we hope to keep track of them during the winter months. The blog address is www.canterburysails.blogspot.com. We had a rest full evening recanting stories of the trip in 2008-9.
