We left the anchorage about 9:00 am and had to time our 1hour only opening bridges but that was impossible. The last bridge was like a comedy of errors. We were coming up to Onslow Beach Bridge and there were large NO ANCHORING SIGNS all over the shore as it was Camp Le Jeune property and Dick stopped steering for a minute to discover our alternator bolt was broken again. The lady from the bridge came on the radio and said "Sailboat northbound, we are going to remain closed as there is a medical emergency on the beach. We cannot open until the medical vehicles come across, go to the emergency and then come back."
So this is my question of the day.
You cannot go forward, you cannot go sideways, and you really don't want to back up. The last anchorage is 4 miles back. A guy in a Beneteau 40 came by and Dick told him our situation and he said, its better than being at work, and the guys said he was at work. He was delivering the boat to New Jersey from Miami. We waited an hour and just kept the engine idling and carried on another 10 miles to Swansboro. Dick put it back together again and added a washer.
Tomorrow we are on to Oriental and we will have to go through Morehead City on a week-end.

Good Morning Sailors: Just finished hanging out laundry. The air is still cold but at least it is warming up a little. I think "Jay" the weatherman has the forecast for today wrong....no sun yet and I just checked it is raining just to the north of us. I wanted to plant some garden at the farm today but maybe not. I hope your trip is smooth sailing today. I really enjoy your writings Ruth.

Good to get your news--must be cheap bolts!!!! Waiting is so frustrating--I had to wait at the bank --then at the Canadian Tire-- spent 3/4 of an hour waiting today. At least the grocery store was OK. This was a beautiful day--22 degrees but colder tomorrow. Glen and family arrived home safely last night but we haven't seen them yet. Glad Dick is a fixit guy even if the tools have to put away.
