Trip 2013 WELcome Aboard

Monday August 5, 2013 and melting into Tuesday August 6, 2013 we prepared the vessel with provisions for the trip. We had been up late returning from Ottawa and so we decided to do a night passage to Erie Penn. WE both love sailing at night and looking at all the stars. We started out with a motor trip and about 15 kts out into the lake the wind came up and we were able to sail at a beautiful 15 kt breeze. Just perfect for Grace C's performance. It was difficult to sleep on that heel so we both stayed up to enjoy the night breeze. We arrived at Marina Bay around 6:30 am which was a record attempt. The weather is as near to perfect as it could be to anchor in a bay.
Dick and I both picked up colds from our dear family and this was a great way to relax and rest.
WE had a little difficulty signing in to the video phone for customs so they sent an officer down to check our documents. We kept thinking we saw him and would get in the dinghy drive over to show and realize it was just another fisherman in his SUV. After no coffee or tea, three tries we finally meet the real thing. It was very gracious and there was no other concerns until we ding-hied back to the boat and we could not get the engine to go into gears on our outboard. So in order to afford this lifestyle we have become accustom to we are going to have to invest in a new outboard and some solar panels to keep the frig from warming on us.
The refrigerator will refuse to take the power from the batteries so as we always have enough for the motor.
Most boaters solve this problem with solar panels.

In the afternoon we ding-hied over to the State Park and went for a small walk. The breezes are like heaven here and so lovely with all the issues to not have the heat to contend with.

The evening was a warm summer breeze with an egg omelette and peaches for dessert. Sruthi had lent us some movies so we popped one in the laptop. After about an hour or so we heard fireworks and came out in the cockpit to watch them from the mainland and we were able to see all the ones that rose above the trees. Day like this are million dollar days.

Wednesday August 7, 2013 - we had breakfast in the breezes and headed to Erie Yacht club for a couple of days. It is warmer but they have a clubhouse to cool off in. So thankful for this weather.
