Winter of 2014 is the hardest we had been hit that I ever remember. The thought of getting out of it at any cost was incredible. We planned our usual journey, work all day and drive through the night to put us at our destination at noon the next day. There of course were some issues with that when we were late leaving Hutton House and then arriving in southern Ohio a day long rain had turned to cold snowy conditions and the roads were crusted with ice snow ruts. The speed had to be significantly reduced through Ohio, Kentucky and into Tennessee. Our check in was for 4:00 pm Saturday Feb 15, 2014. At 4:30 pm we pulled in the driveway to the Travel Lodge in Clear-water. The drive across the bay was exile-rating. There were a billion diamonds sparking on the water. Whatever way you look you see water for as far as the eye can see. We unpacked the car and managed to watch a couple of shows on the Direct TV show and by then Dick was sawing logs. /He had done the majority of the driving and would only let me spell him off in the morning when we had gotten to Georgia. The temperature started to climb and by the time we got here it was 21 degrees. I took my boots off in Georgia and put on my sandles.

Staycashion!
We slept in our bed last night and so I got up around 8:50 am and walked downstairs in my long T shirt night gown with the words, Wild Thing embossed on the front in big letters, and the door bell rang. I went out to open the door and an older man answered. He asked me to sign my name and was obviously uncomfortable so he picked up the order and started to walk back to the car with our camera. Before he left I said can I have the box? Oh, yea sorry Mame! He handed it to me and took off. We got the outboard to Stan's Marina and they have to order a part. It should be in on Wednesday, and we were able to get the foam we need for the breather and we McGivered a part for the Breather on the engine. After dinner we checked the weather and it is suppose to be high winds tomorrow. WE may be having a Staycation form here on in. We may try going to Erieau Wednesday.
I had a fun time talking to the girls in Kanata today and was able to download some pictures and will get the prints when I get back to work next week.

Sunday Sailing Back Home
Our trip home on Sunday turned out to be a lovely trip weather wise. The wind was on the beam so we motor sailed, there were no flies and the sun was out all day but the breeze keep it comfortable.
Dave (AYC member) decided to go to Erieau so we were alone on the trip back. When we got back to the village Diane and Tony had prepared us a dinner of ribs, salad, resuto. What a blessing to come back and have a meal prepared for you.
Tomorrow we have to take the outboard in for a repair, get our camera from the delivery truck and get groceries and a filter for the Diesel Engine at Kubota store.

We set out on our next leg of the journey
Friday we left early for Ashtabula Ohio, as the wind was going to clock around 11:00 am to the nose so we wanted to get as far as we could under sail. AS it turned out we were sailing dead down wind so we motor sailed the whole way. It was clouding and overcast when we left but the sun came out and it was beautiful and refreshing to be underway again. We arrived in Ashtabula about 2:30 pm and received a warm-hearted welcome from the AYC members. We tied up near the power boaters and were invited to a Barbecue of beer, burgers and salads for 5.00! We are in! When we come here during the Lake Erie International we spend most of our time with other Sail boat folks, but this time we were with the power boaters. They all love Port Stanley and motor over on a regular basis. They all have clothes they bought there and being a resident of Port assured us almost celebrity status at the event. :)
Our plan is to spend the week-end here. There is a Steak and Corn Roast tonight. Dick ordered a camera from Staples and it is to be delivered next business day so we may go home and take it from there. One of the racers we know is planning a trip to Port so it will probably turn into a race.
We have Free Wifi again. Love America!

Day of Shopping
We woke to a sticky warm day and decided to take sometime and spend it in Air Conditioning. The Mill Creek provides an opportunity to do some shopping and not something I normally have time to do. Dick is not feeling the greatest but decided to come so as not to spend the whole day wasted, sitting around. :)
I missed having my Mother-in-law with me at Macy's. It brought back memories of Florida.
Dick managed to find some double o 7 movies and that is how we will spend the evening. When we got back to the club they had a Corvette car show.
Tomorrow's plan is to head to Ashtabula, Ohio which is 36 knots. The wind is suppose to be South until around 11:00 am and then shift to South west which is dead on the nose. :)
We tried to find a camera today but none of their prices are as good as ones sourced at home.
So No pics!

Erie Yacht Club
We took the day slow and easy again. There was a beautiful breeze blowing all day and it kept it comfortable on or off board. We got showers, wifi and in the evening we went up to the Clubhouse for some burgers. When we were heading up to the clubhouse we noticed people onboard getting ready for the race.
When we asked about them the Committee boat told us they were running them from the Lighthouse and there would be about 40 boats in it. There was great front row view from a dock set out in the water. The boats were tacking back and forth in front of us. My cold has sapped any strength I might of had out of me.
Dick walked up the hill and into the city to get some supplies. I stayed on board and slept.
Dick is up in the night with the noise from the halyards of other boats who don't tie them properly for these situations. Our dock is in with the racers as that is where the deep water is. There transient docks are down to 5 feet. If we say here I guess less breeze might be better. Lazy hazy days of summer!

Trip 2013 WELcome Aboard
Monday August 5, 2013 and melting into Tuesday August 6, 2013 we prepared the vessel with provisions for the trip. We had been up late returning from Ottawa and so we decided to do a night passage to Erie Penn. WE both love sailing at night and looking at all the stars. We started out with a motor trip and about 15 kts out into the lake the wind came up and we were able to sail at a beautiful 15 kt breeze. Just perfect for Grace C's performance. It was difficult to sleep on that heel so we both stayed up to enjoy the night breeze. We arrived at Marina Bay around 6:30 am which was a record attempt. The weather is as near to perfect as it could be to anchor in a bay.
Dick and I both picked up colds from our dear family and this was a great way to relax and rest.
WE had a little difficulty signing in to the video phone for customs so they sent an officer down to check our documents. We kept thinking we saw him and would get in the dinghy drive over to show and realize it was just another fisherman in his SUV. After no coffee or tea, three tries we finally meet the real thing. It was very gracious and there was no other concerns until we ding-hied back to the boat and we could not get the engine to go into gears on our outboard. So in order to afford this lifestyle we have become accustom to we are going to have to invest in a new outboard and some solar panels to keep the frig from warming on us.
The refrigerator will refuse to take the power from the batteries so as we always have enough for the motor.
Most boaters solve this problem with solar panels.
In the afternoon we ding-hied over to the State Park and went for a small walk. The breezes are like heaven here and so lovely with all the issues to not have the heat to contend with.
The evening was a warm summer breeze with an egg omelette and peaches for dessert. Sruthi had lent us some movies so we popped one in the laptop. After about an hour or so we heard fireworks and came out in the cockpit to watch them from the mainland and we were able to see all the ones that rose above the trees. Day like this are million dollar days.
Wednesday August 7, 2013 - we had breakfast in the breezes and headed to Erie Yacht club for a couple of days. It is warmer but they have a clubhouse to cool off in. So thankful for this weather.
