Saturday February 20, 2016

We packed  up today and Dick and Alastair went back to see the boat one more time.
Bev took me to the Tangier Mall and stopped to pick up some fresh strawberries. Wow the fragrance.

We drove down to Poinciana on hwy 17 and got to see another side of Florida. The Peace Valley orange and grapefruit plant was bustling with the harvest.

We checked in at the Time share at Alhambra at Poinciana at 4:00 pm. Poinciana is a type of tree and Alhambra is a type of architecture. We got bombarded with the Vacation hard sell and have signed up for Monday morning to get it over with. The room is a suite and they have a microwave and dishes and a refrigerator. There is a pool and shopping near by.

See that flag flying and the smile on Alastair's face.

Dick and I walked over the bridge to Fort Myers Beach and meet Bev and Alastair for dinner.

Thursday February 18, 2016 - Naples and a Picinc

We decided to head out for a day trip to Naples Bev made a delicious lunch. I tried to take a picture of it and did not know I had the camera on video. That is me complaining about the battery again.

Alastair and Bev drove us down to Naples. This is the farthest south we have ever been in Florida.

We went to the beach and walked along and then walked up the Historical Shopping Area. Parking is at a premium but we managed to get a spot near the Beach.

We stopped for a tea at a hotel and Bev ordered donuts and they took forever to come to the table but when they did they were delicious. Homemade and heated. The hotel did not open until 4:00 pm for happy hour and that is why they took so long. They had to wait for the grease to heat up. They were the most delicious donuts I have ever eaten.

Wednesday February 17, 2016 - Day in Estero

Sailing with Port Stanley Sailors

Catch up with Ken and Glenny

Ken Holland a fellow PSSS sailor winters in Estero and we introduced him and his wife Glenny to Alastair and Bev through email. Alastair and he have been sailing together for the winter.

They invited us to dinner and Ken joined us for a morning sail. On the way back to their home he gave us a tour of the Bella Jack development. They have a beautiful home and treated us to a delicious meal. It was wonderful thrill for Dick and I to have everyone together.

Pine Island and a girls day out!

We watched a documentary the night before about Pine Island and the art community called Matlacha.

Bev decided to take me there for a girls day out. The men went sailing and we drove to the community of Matlacha. Stopped at a restaurant to have a drink and go to the washroom. There were may folks there from Bayview Yacht club having a delicious meal and celebration. It is on a canal.

Pine Island had decided to resist development and stay the way it is. They have many nurseries on it that grow Palm now. Originally they grew Pines. Bev drove me out to St. James on the south shore of the island.
